Dodd RV Night Race Results | August 24, 2019

Hampton, VA (8-24-19) Headed into the latter half of the 2019 race season at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway, the push and positioning for divisional championships are well underway as contenders make it known just who’s in and whose there to play spoiler. Taking the track in this week’s sponsored, “DODD RV Night at the Races”, were the Cycle City Corp Bandoleros and Legends divisions. Also featured were the Harris Truck Shop Super Trucks, Bojangles UCar’s, Pepsi Grand Stocks and the always entertaining Parts Barn Enduros. The evenings racing will also feature twin races from the Taylor Waste Services Late Models. So, with the foot mashed down hard on the gas and foot off the brakes, here’s the recap of the action an how it all went down.

Cycle City Corp Bandoleros 15 Laps: Ryley Music bested the Bandoleros series qualifying showcasing his 21.066 second lap. Cody Bryant Jr earned his place in second, shotgun in row one. With the green beginning the evenings racing program, pole sitter Ryley Music showed the grid deep into turn one. At the stripe leading lap one would be the pole sitter Ryley Music and following him would be third place starter Jacob Derrick now in second. Aaliyah Paynter also picked up a spot to third leaving Cody Bryant Jr falling back to fourth. All nose to tail, the leaders were single file and looking for opportunities to advance. But then just past the halfway, the races first caution when Derrick and Paynter get together coming out of turn four. Back to the green with five circuits to go, Jacob Derrick quickly regroups and is able to fall in line with leader. But troubles continued for Paynter as she goes around once again. Restart to the feature saw race leader Ryley Music hold off the advances of Jacob Derrick. But then Derrick has to race Bryant for second and that was all the race leader needed to go on to win. Ryley Music gets it done with the winning margin at 0.282 seconds, Music had these words from Victory Lane. “It was really fun as I sometimes say, you always learn something or you try something new. I just tried racing in the rain and it was really fun. When the rain came down it was really fun”.

  2. #8 Jacob Derrick; 15
  3. #00 Cody Bryant Jr; 15

Taylor Waste Services Late Models Twin 70’s: Connor Hall put his hot rod on the series pole with his 15.732 second lap. The lap held off series points leader Greg Edwards who was just thirty nine thousandths of a second off the pole. Brenden Queen, Danny Edwards Jr and Casey Wyatt rounded out the five fastest in the afternoon time trials. Green was over the speedway and the early race leader was the pole sitter Connor Hall. Brenden Queen picks up a spot to second as did Casey Wyatt to fourth. Laps later, the race leader showed his muscle sporting a ten car length lead as the field quickly fell single file in preparation for the long green flag run. Battle for second picked up when Greg Edwards reached the bumper of Queen who wisely let Edwards go for the spot. Soon after, Wyatt, Danny Edwards came through as well leaving Queen in fifth when the dust settled. Well into the green flag run, Greg Edwards began to knockoff the car lengths of the race leader Hall. Then on lap twenty eight of the scheduled seventy, Greg Edwards became the new race leader. Battle for third picked up when Danny Edwards jockeyed for the spot held by Casey Wyatt. At the halfway, Greg Edwards maintained the lead and for now, Wyatt held off Danny Edwards for third. Back to the leaders, Greg Edwards was driving away, his race lead had grown to a half a straight away over Connor Hall riding in second. Best battle on the track was from third to fifth involving Wyatt, Queen and Danny Edwards. Finally, Wyatt gets loose in turn four and comes Queen to third. Final laps saw Greg Edwards continue to dominate the feature and would go on to win the caution free race by 5.623 seconds.

In the Late Model nightcap, the mandatory eight car invert would be applied to grid forcing race one winner Greg Edwards to start eighth. But instead, choose to start at the rear of the grid and handed the pole to Justin Carroll. Green flag began the feature and the early race leader would be Justin Carroll. Terry Carroll picked up the second spot as Danny Edwards showed third in the early goings. Then the races first caution when Craig Eastep went around courtesy of Thomas Marks who was then ordered to the rear for his involvement. Back to the green, this time it’s Danny Edwards to the front as Justin Carroll, Brenden Queen, Connor Hall and Terry Carroll were the top five. Meanwhile, race one winner Greg Edwards had worked his way to eighth from starting in the rear. At the front, Danny Edwards had built up a four car length lead but the fastest car on the track was his brother Greg Edwards who now was shown in sixth. Great battle for second as Justin Carroll had it, Connor Hall wanted it and after a three lap battle, Hall finally took it. The battle for second was exactly what the leader wanted to see as his lead soon grew to twelve lengths. But the lead was wiped away when Rodney Boyd went around to bring out the caution. Back to the green, Connor Hall from the outside takes the race lead but on his bumper is Danny Edwards. Meanwhile, Greg Edwards continues to pick them off and climbed up to third. Now back to single file racing and as the halfway neared, Greg Edwards had caught the leaders. Then the races third caution when Craig Eastep is seen spinning on the backstretch. Back to the green, Connor Hall is able to hold off Greg Edwards for now but the side by side battle ensues. Before the battle could be settled, another caution halted the action which set up another exciting restart. Green flag waved and this time, Connor Hall secures the point. Danny Edwards would pick up second momentarily before Greg Edwards passed for position. From that point, the bullseye was on race leader Connor Hall as lap for lap, Greg Edwards was coming. On back, Justin Carroll and Brenden Queen were providing the thrills as the race headed into the latter stages. Back to the leaders and this time Greg Edwards is there, searching for the best way around Hall. Then the battle ensued, trading turns at the lead and with contact, Connor Hall survives the assault. But just as Greg Edwards regroups and works his way to the inside of Hall, another caution. With eight laps left, the green flag waves and the battle heats up. From the outside, Greg Edwards takes the lead and from there, goes on to win by 0.933 seconds. Greg Edwards from Victory Lane, “It’s just really hard racing there with Connor, if the fans don’t like that racing, I don’t know. That was some exciting side by side racing, Connor gave me all he had, Connor never backs down. He’s gonna run it for all she’s got and that’s what he should do. Our car was just a tick better tonight and I’m just proud of this team. Thank God for this effort, thank God for Charlie High racing engines, James Long, my fans and family, I really appreciate it”.

His lap of 19.128 seconds kept Chase McAdams from the top spot but worthy of the two spot on the grid. Keith Wheeler, Ryan Huff and Shannon Lester highlighted the Super Truck division fastest in qualifying. Green flag would wave and from the outside, side by side coming to the line, Chase McAdams leads lap one. Lap two would be even better for McAdams who then created an eight truck length lead over second place Rick Poust. On back it was Keith Wheeler who was being challenged by Ryan Huff for third as Shannon Lester would show fifth. Laps later, Donald Brown and Paige Cain would get together to bring out the races first caution. Back to green flag racing, McAdams continued to lead with Poust lurking just a truck length behind as the halfway draws near. Chris Munger would make his name known running fifth as Donald Brown wanted the spot. Back to the front, Wheeler gets by Poust for second as Huff was all over Poust for third. Final laps saw McAdams pulling away and avoiding any advances from second place Keith Wheeler. Last lap and at the stripe, Chase McAdams wins by 2.568 seconds. McAdams from Victory Lane, “I knew as soon as it got cool out it was gonna be hooked up so I didn’t touch a thing. Green flag waved and leading the first circuit was the pole sitter Spencer Saunders. From the third spot comes Colby Flowers to second but laps later gave it back to Ryan Matthews. Ryan Centers rode in fourth as Chris Hayes filled the five spot on the Legends series grid. Earlier, during the pass for second, Saunders had built up an eight car length lead but as the laps clicked away, Matthews was reeling in the leader. Halfway in the race and second place Ryan Matthews had cut the lead in half. Nipping away, lap for lap and benefitting from lap traffic, Ryan Matthews is there to challenge for the lead. Late laps in the feature, the race leader seemed to have hit the go button and began to distance himself from Matthews. Last lap and its Spencer Saunders crossing the stripe first by a margin of 0.357 seconds. Saunders from Victory Lane, “One word, redemption, we’ve given the last two races up, finished second and tonight I was not going to be denied. Man, what a car, we’ve had such a great car the last three times we’ve been here. Finally got it done tonight again, feels like forever since we’ve been to Victory Lane”.

Bojangles UCar’s 25 Laps: In UCar division qualifying, Mike Farley picked up the series pole clocking in at 19.079 seconds. Mike Chapman placed his ride in the second starting position followed by Tyler Borden, Cameron Ruggles and Casey Bristow as the series five best. Flagman Shane Snyder gave the command to start the race, waving high in his hand was the green flag. Coming around to lead lap one would be the pole sitter, Mike Farley. Mike Chapman quickly conceded and got in the leader’s line as Cameron Ruggles, Tyler Borden and Austin Davis were the early top five. Laps later, Chapman begins to close in on the leader when suddenly Tyler Borden hits hard on the front stretch wall. After clean up concluded, racing resumed and Mike Farley has the better restart to secure the point. Mike Chapman had the two spot as Austin Davis would run third. Remaining laps in the feature would go caution free as Chapman did close in but the laps would run out. Mike Farley wins the UCar feature by a margin of 0.989 seconds, Farley had this to say. “Kinda messed up my first start, spotter encouraged me not to do it a second time. Didn’t really want to do a victory lap as a lot of the guys had a tough night. Its tough to win when there’s a lot of attrition, you know you really want to have a fair fight and battle somebody at the end. Will come back, hopefully everybody gets to rerack and come back with strong cars”.

Pepsi Grand Stocks 40 Laps: Tim Wilson once again nabbed up the Grand Stock pole sporting a 17.862 second lap. Paul Lubno showed off the speed as well getting the two spot on the grid. With the green shown to the field, great side by side battle between the pole sitter Wilson and Lubno. But with the inside advantage, Wilson secures the point as Lubno backs off and slams the door on third place Michael Waters. Chris Roberts would pick up two spots and showing fourth as Kevin Morgan ran fifth. Back up front and several laps in, Wilson would show the way as Lubno rode two car lengths on back. But the riding around soon ended when Paul Lubno collapsed the two car lengths and then passed Wilson for the lead. Reaching the halfway, Lubno had the lead as Wilson would do a good job of keeping pace with the leader. With the rest of the grid stretched out, it was definitely a two horse show as Wilson looked to close in on the race leader. Lubno would do well choosing when to pass lap traffic and keeping Wilson at a safe distance should a mistake be made. Closing laps, Wilson would get to the bumper but could not give the leader a shove needed to get by. Paul Lubno gets the Grand Stock win by a margin of 0.200 seconds. Lubno with words from Victory Lane, “It says a lot about my crew, the people associated with me, the sponsors that makes all this happen. I’m just the wheelman, I just try to do the best I can for them. Tim is a great driver, got a fast car and a great crew like we do. Chris Kane takes second but before the field starts to settle out, the races first red flag. Back to the racing and right back to the red flag when Taylor Kool hits the turn four wall hard. Green flag waves once again and the leaders get tangled up in lap traffic. Coming through as the new race leader was Richard Ellis as Charlie Bryant took second. On the move and coming to the front would be Colby Vance showing fourth but troubles for second place Charlie Bryant who makes contact with the wall. Soon after, Vance who has shown to be the man to beat in the series would make his way to second as the halfway point of the race went up on the board. But for the leader Richard Ellis, his race lead was seconds ahead of Vance who struggled to get through slower race traffic. Final laps saw Colby Vance nipping away at the lead but the laps would run out, Richard Ellis goes to Victory Lane.
