Wacky Wednesday Returns for 20th Anniversary Season

HAMPTON, Virginia – As the 2021 racing season continues to unwind, Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway welcomes back its Wacky Wednesdays race program. A unique oval drag racing experience that allows you to bring your street car onto the racing surface and see how you do around the famed .398-mile oval. A tradition that began in 2001, Wacky Wednesday is set to kick off its 20th season this week.

“Wacky Wednesdays have been a staple of Langley Speedway for as long as I can remember,” Crittenden commented. “Wacky is not only one of the most affordable mid-week entertainment options the speedway has to offer but it’s a way that we can offer safe and legal racing between you and your work buddy or neighbor from down the road. Where else can you go to watch your mom’s mini-van take on your friends pickup truck?”

Racing will be open to anyone over the age of eighteen with a valid driver’s license and a street legal vehicle with a valid and current state inspection and approved helmet. Competitors will have the opportunity to run for a points championship for “Time Attack’s” – single car runs for two laps to see who can post the fastest time around the speedway. Oval style drag racing will also make its return this year where you will compete against your family, friends, and co- workers in bracket style racing for a one lap, door-to-door, race around the speedway. Additionally, this year will see an introduction to a One-on-One champion – more details to be announced.

“Wacky is great mid-week entertainment,” defending Time Attack champion Sparky West who competes in a Mazda Miata said. “It’s also great for someone that has never raced and wants to at a lost cost. Several people have started out racing at Wacky and moved up to Saturday night racing. All you need is a snell Helmet that cost around $200 and a car that can pass a state inspection for safety. You really can’t beat amount of FUN for the money anywhere.”

Tug Arnold from Newport News, who finished third in last years’ Time Attack Championship, shared similar sentiments about his experience at Wacky Wednesday in his 1996 Honda Civic DX Hatch

“Wacky to me is about showing what you can do to most everyday cars with a little work and prove what can be done with it. But a big part of it is getting back to friends who are like family and having fun, it’s a great entry into racing world you meet a lot of people and learn how to get into more serious competition motorsports.”

Registration and General Admission will open at 6:00 PM this Wednesday with on track activities schedule to begin at 7:15 PM. Race Registration is $15, General Admission tickets are $7. For questions on rules and requirements for drivers please contact the speedway during the week at (757) 865-RACE. Tickets will be available both online in advance for contactless entry as well as available for purchase the day of.
