Hampton, Va — Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway… where legends are born, a slogan that couldn’t be any closer to the truth, is excited to welcome back Bill Carnes and Given to Fly Photography as the tracks official photographer.
“This was probably one of the more easier decisions made over the off season,” said Justin Kern, Director of Media Relations. “Bill’s love of the sport, passion for his hobby, and dedication to the speedway is what makes him the best person for the job. To ask some someone to help us capture moments in time in the freezing cold and then sweltering heat every Saturday for seven months is no easy task and Bill did so last year in an amazing way.”
Bill Carnes, a customer service specialist for Daltile in Norfolk, Virginia was born and raised in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, transplanted into Hampton Roads years later by the United States Air Force. After his time in the service, he elected to stay in Virginia for his daughters. Carnes, an avid Yankees fan, started to fall in love with the sport of auto racing. Years later he would fall in love with the art of photography. The real fun started when he decided to enjoy both hobbies at once.
Starting out small, Bill made trips out to Langley Speedway on the weekends, getting all the practice he could taking photos of moving targets. He would eventually venture out to other local tracks, and various other series like the CARS Tour, NHRA, and PDRA, gaining valued experience as well as building relationships with the local, regional, and national drivers. Carnes also spent a season as a freelance photographer for the former racing website The Weekly Racer.
“Bill helped me out a lot back when I was running The Weekly Racer so I knew he was trust worthy and had and eye for motorsports”, Kern commented. “His love for the sport and determination to make a name for him self with Given to Fly Photography reminded me a lot of how TWR got started and how I am where I am now. Bill is a honest to god hard worker and has a genuine love for short track racing and that is just the kind of people I want to work with.”
Carnes will continue in his roll this season for the second year in a row providing official victory lane and action photos for various media releases as well as other promotional products. Given to Fly Photography will also continue to be the only officially licensed photographs to be sold on property.
