Hampton, VA – For the fourth time in his surprisingly long yet distinguished racing career, Carrollton, Virginia’s Spencer Saunders will be crowned the Cycle City Corp Legends Champion next month for the fourth time.
Consistency and high car counts were the keys to Saunder’s success in the points standings this year. Though Saunders may have not collected the most wins on the season, strong finishes did, however, help him collect the most points. The now four-time and back-to-back champion never once finished outside the top five. Finding his way to Dale Lemonds Victory Lane in both April and July.
“It feels really good to mark back-to-back titles off our bucket list,” Saunders mentioned. “It always seems when we win a championship we kind of have a hangover season the year after and don’t run as well so this one feels really good! This gives us four legends titles now and I’m not sure if that’s the most by anybody or not. I haven’t researched it, but man, four is hard to believe – ’13, ’17, ’21, ’22!”
A championship year 2022 was for the 33-year-old driver both on and off the race track. Over the summer he and his long-time girlfriend and fiancé, Caitie Saunders, exchanged vows in front of their family and close friends. They two then spent their honeymoon on the beautiful island of Jamaica. All before coming home and entering the life of new homeowners together. Saunders Motorsports will return to the Cycle City Corp Legends for an unprecedented fifth division title.
